💡 Part 3: Short Answer & Critical Thinking

1. Selection Strategy: You need to format three separate headings that are not next to each other in a 10-page document. What is the MOST EFFICIENT selection method and why?
2. Formatting Choice: When would you use Justify alignment versus Align Left? Give specific document type examples for each.
3. Lists Decision: Explain when you would use: (a) Bulleted list, (b) Numbered list, (c) Multilevel list. Provide one real-world example for each.
4. Object Insertion: You're creating a company newsletter. List at least 5 different objects you would insert and explain the purpose of each.
5. Problem Solving: A colleague's document has inconsistent formatting - different fonts, sizes, and spacing throughout. What steps would you take to quickly fix this using the skills from Topics 6-10?

🔑 Instructor Answer Key

Part 2: Knowledge Check

A. Match the Selection Method

1. B (Double-click word = Entire single word)
2. A (Triple-click paragraph = Entire paragraph)
3. B (Ctrl+A = All text in document)
4. A (Ctrl+Drag = Non-adjacent sections)

B. Match the Formatting Shortcut

5. B (Ctrl+B = Bold)
6. A (Ctrl+I = Italic)
7. C (Ctrl+J = Justify)
8. B (Ctrl+= = Subscript)

C. Fill in the Blanks

9. Ctrl+Shift+Arrow (or Ctrl+Shift+←/→)
10. 1.15 (or 1.15 lines)
11. Paragraph
12. Tab
13. Insert
14. Ctrl+D

D. True or False

15. True (Triple-click in margin selects ALL text)
16. True (Superscript raises text: x²)
17. True (Justify fills both margins)
18. False (Bulleted = order does NOT matter; Numbered = order matters)
19. True (Stock Images is new in Word 2021)
20. False (Shift+Tab DECREASES indent; Tab increases)

Part 3: Short Answer (Sample Answers)

1. Selection Strategy: Use Ctrl+Drag (non-contiguous selection) to select all three headings at once, then apply formatting to all simultaneously. This is faster than selecting and formatting each individually.
2. Formatting Choice:
  • Justify: Newspapers, textbooks, formal reports - creates clean edges on both sides
  • Align Left: Letters, emails, casual documents - easier to read, natural for English
3. Lists Decision:
  • (a) Bulleted: Shopping list, features, ingredients - order doesn't matter
  • (b) Numbered: Recipe steps, instructions, rankings - sequence is important
  • (c) Multilevel: Outline, table of contents, organizational hierarchy - shows relationships between main points and sub-points
4. Object Insertion: Examples:
  • Pictures: Product photos, event images
  • Tables: Price lists, schedules
  • Shapes: Decorative elements, arrows to highlight
  • Header/Footer: Company logo, page numbers
  • WordArt: Eye-catching titles
  • Symbols: Copyright marks, special characters
5. Problem Solving:
  1. Press Ctrl+A to select all
  2. Apply consistent Font (e.g., Calibri) and Size (11pt)
  3. Use Clear All Formatting (eraser icon) if needed
  4. Set uniform Line Spacing (1.15 or 1.5)
  5. Apply consistent Paragraph Spacing (Before/After)
  6. Use Styles (Heading 1, Heading 2, Normal) for consistency
